After Villa’s 3-0 loss to Fulham on Thursday night, Steven Gerrard was fired. He has only won two league games all season. In a lackluster performance at Craven Cottage, Gerrard’s team was easily defeated by promoted side Fulham. Douglas Luiz was sent off for Villa after an hour. Fulham took the lead after 30 minutes.

The departure of Gerrard is not unexpected given the Villans’ dismal season debut. The former Liverpool midfielder leaves after only 11 months in command and joins Thomas Tuchel, Scott Parker, and Bruno Lage as the fourth Premier League managers to leave their positions thus far in the 2022–23 season.

Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect, according to a statement posted on the club’s website shortly after full-time. We would like to thank Steven for his dedication and hard work, and we wish him the best in the future, a club representative continued.

Under Steven Gerrard, Aston Villa only managed to win one of the 19 Premier League contests in which they gave up the first goal. Simply put, Gerrard’s performance at Aston Villa wasn’t good enough. However, he is not completely to blame for the club’s issues. And there may still be more departures. On Sunday against Brentford in the Premier League, Villa will play without Gerrard for the first time.
